Exhibition Tour
Shared Dreams: Cuba and The U.S. Cross The
Digital Divide

Perhaps
it really is time to "Give Peace A Chance". More than 500
people attended the U.S. premiere of Shared Dreams 2005 with it’s
theme of Dreams of Peace. The opening night event at the epOxybOx Gallery
in Venice showcased the inspiring artwork by designers from Cuba and the
U.S. that was shown in Havana earlier in the year.
Two of the designers represented in the exhibition traveled to Los Angeles
for opening. Maggy Cuesta
and Stuart Alden also attended
the opening in Havana in June, so for them it was especially meaningful
to see their work – and the works of their Cuban and American colleagues
– come full circle to be shown in both countries.
The designers in Havana participated in the U.S. premier throughout the
evening by way of video conferencing and Web cast, while they were concurrently
celebrating being honored with the Premio Nacional de Cultura Comunitaria
award.
Over 500 local L.A. guests came to enjoy the inspiring art work, hear
great Cuban music by Latin Kool, enjoy tasty food by
El Floridita, and
sip the incredible ginger mohitos provided by Gingerita.
The designers' original art – along with commentaries in their own
words - were exhibited along with a special set of signed and numbered,
limited edition posters, each one signed by the artists in Cuba. The posters
are being sold to benefit the Cuban
Artist's Fund and The
New York Foundation for the Arts. The posters can be purchased
while the limited editions last by clicking here.
Plans are underway for the Shared Dreams touring exhibition to visit galleries throughout North American including San Francisco, Miami, and New York, Chicago and more. International sites are scheduled for Vancouver, Canada and Venezuela, and Havana. Please check back on our site here for more updated information about these ? and other - tour dates.
